TRANSFORMING YOUR MENTAL TOOLBOX

Do you have the skill and the will but your brain just gets in the way? Do your thoughts and stories keep you from playing your best golf? If so, know that you are not alone! Golf is as much of a mental sport as it is physical so putting the time in with a Mindset Coach is time well spent.

Our very own Mindset Coach, Courtney Marchesin received her Master of Arts in Kinesiology with a focus in Sport Psychology from the University of Lethbridge in 2011. She has worked with athletes from all sports and backgrounds building their mental toolbox and stamina for 14 years.

As a previous athlete herself, she understands the value of mental preparation. Her goal is to help athletes train and develop an extensive repertoire of mental skills that become second nature. She loves seeing athletes get into their flow mindset so that their physical skills can truly shine.

You can work with Courtney individually or once a month she offers a Mindset Coaching Call in our online community, you choose!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • In short, it is the training of mental skills (you already possess!) to build mental toughness in your sport/aspirations.

  • Getting into the ‘flow mindset’. We often call this ‘the zone’, but it is the point where your brain and body go into autopilot and do what they have trained so hard to do. And THIS is where the magic happens!

  • We put so much time and effort into our physical game…aka: training skills, strength training, physiotherapy, cross training BUT at the end of the day, what do we say when we don’t perform the way we know we can? “My head wasn’t in the right spot today”, or “I had a mental block”, “I choked on the final hole”. Any of those sound familiar?!

  • Anyone! It does not matter the time you’ve spent training, the number of rounds you have or haven’t played. If you’re at the top of the top, mental training is what is going to keep you there. And often, mental toughness is what will set two equally [physically] skilled athletes apart.

To elaborate, the one who can stay cool under pressure, has trained the mental tools they need to get them through any potential roadblock, those are going to be the athletes who seem to have a more smooth performance overall.

  • Understanding the core concepts of how you can train your mental game and what skills and tools you will develop in this type of training is step one. This preliminary step can often be done in a group or as an individual, and set the base understanding for mental training.

The secondary step comes in customized individual coaching and training to develop the specific areas and tools that will most benefit each athlete. No one athlete is the same, and therefore no mental training will look identical, either.

  • In each package, basic, standard, or premium, you will receive one monthly coaching call with our Wellness Coach Courtney Marchesin. If you are looking for additional 1 on 1 coaching with Courtney, we will have those available in our shop as well so make sure to take a look!

  • No, mental training for sport is not a fad. It is a well-established and widely recognized practice that has been utilized by athletes for decades. Mental training techniques, such as visualization, goal setting, relaxation strategies, and positive self-talk, have been shown to improve performance, enhance focus, and increase resilience and confidence in athletes. Many professional athletes and teams incorporate mental training into their overall training programs to gain a competitive edge.

  • Mental training improves golf performance. It enhances focus, concentration, and emotional control, which are crucial in the sport. Techniques like visualization, positive self-talk, goal-setting, mindfulness, and relaxation exercises help golfers stay resilient, focused, and composed.

These techniques also aid in managing distractions, overcoming anxiety, improving decision-making, and building confidence on the course. By training your mind, you can improve consistency and perform well in challenging situations. Mental training complements technical and physical training, enhancing overall performance.
